Marnie Rose loves her job as an artist representative. When she was a junior at SUNY Geneseo, she was unsure of what she wanted to do. Initially she was pretty confident that she wanted to go into broadcast journalism. After exploring the world of advertising, she changed paths and has been in this field ever since.

How She Got Where She is Today

Marnie joined the job market in an economic state similar to the one we have today. One of her first suggestions she had was to take a job related to your interests and go from there. Prior to starting her own agency, she worked with Martha Stewart and Coach Leatherware in all aspects of production such as press events, public relations and print campaigns. All of these things prepared her for where she is today.

How is SUNY Geneseo help?

During her time in Geneseo, Marnie said the communication major helped her narrow down what she wanted to do as a career. Not only did she try out both communication tracks, but she cited internships as being very useful too. In her 15 years post graduation Marnie has found herself in a career that she never thought she would be in, but loves all the same.

Advice for Grads...

Try different things! On top of owning her own business, Marnie gets to work with a variety of  clients and artists. Rose enjoys the fast paced environment and high demand of the industry. Only by taking on different positions did she finally realize what she wanted to do. She cites Geneseo as a great staring point for this process. Although the advertising industry is very competitive, Marnie feels as though it is rewarding to see the work she has done on newsstands. Rose said to be persistent and not discouraged; things will work out.
