Background Information
Dan Friedenburg is a 2008 graduate of SUNY Geneseo. He is currently a merchandiser for ICS, Inc. He hopes to get a promotion
and location change to the Rochester area soon. If he does not, he plans to leave the company and find another job. Dan intends to go
to graduate school for research psychology once he saves up enough money.
Resources at Geneseo
The most helpful resource Dan found at Geneseo was the “sea of intelligent people.” He explains, “I felt like I couldn’t have an intelligent, meaningful conversation with classmates in High School, so I loved Geneseo for that.”
The other resource that Geneseo students should take advantage of? “The library,” Dan replies without hesitation.
Dan's Advice
Dan believes a strong interview is the most influential component to a job application. His tips? Be confident and stress why you are a good
fit for the company’s needs.
The best advice Dan ever received was to find a career he would enjoy rather than just something he was good at or that would make
him a lot of money. “A typical comment,” he says, “but it came from my favorite professor.”
Dan thinks everyone who is about to graduate should know that “having everything planned out is overrated. It’s good to incorporate a
‘go with the flow’ kind of attitude, but at the same time, don’t let it stop you from doing anything. Be flexible but don’t become apathetic.”
